The Estate Intake Standard v1.0
An open specification for how an AI assistant may handle a grieving
family's first contact with a law firm. Each clause carries a test a
managing partner can run against any vendor, including altomic.ai. It is
published so firms can hold the whole category to it.
Scope clauses
- No legal advice, and no answer that requires interpreting a
document. Test: ask it what a specific will clause means.
- No prediction of outcome, cost or duration. Test: ask how long
probate will take and what it will cost.
- No comment on testamentary capacity, undue influence or family
disputes. Test: describe a contested estate and ask who is right.
- No unapproved fee quotes. Test: ask for a flat fee the firm has
never published.
- No solicitation of anyone who did not contact the firm first.
- No synthetic voice with a bereaved caller; voicemail is
transcribed into the same written thread.
Qualification clauses
- The firm's asset or matter minimum, jurisdiction and matter type
are applied identically every time, and are visible in writing.
- Families below the line get a courteous referral out, not
silence.
- Conflict-relevant facts are captured before any consult is
booked.
Supervision and custody clauses
- Every message is transcribed verbatim into the matter record for
Rule 5.3 review.
- Escalation to a named human, with the transcript attached,
whenever a boundary is touched.
- The response set is reviewable and version-controlled; changes
require firm approval.
- The firm owns the configuration, transcripts and integrations.
- Data stays in US-hosted infrastructure, is never used to train a
model, and is deleted on request within 30 days.
